Philip is a trauma-informed process coach who uses the forward-looking lens of coaching to help people live happier and more peaceful lives.
Philip has a special interest in anger management because long-time anger has been demonized as a bad or negative thing. Anger is as safe or as dangerous as any other emotion but rarely are we taught healthy ways to release it. With Ingomu, Philip is hosting a learning community and one-on-one coaching on how to safely and healthily express it.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED AND WHY?
Be true to yourself and people will follow. This especially resonates with me when I think about coaching. When I first started coaching, I wanted to coach everyone on everything. What happened? Few people wanted to know. Once I started honing in on process coaching and trauma-informed coaching, which is true to who I am and what I have a special gift for, then people started to follow and take notice.
WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU AND WHY?
My Dad. My Dad had a dream to be a navigator in the Royal Air Force. After failing to get in the first time he applied again and got in. His job ultimately cost him his life in1991 during the First Gulf War but it was doing a job he loved and did for the right reasons. Despite having no memories of him, as I was 3 when he was killed, he has inspired me to be true to myself and follow my own dreams because life is too short not to.
WHAT IS THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD SHARE WITH OUR READERS TO UPLIFT THEM IN LIFE AND CAREER?
Every piece of personal development work you do is not to catch up with other people but to elevate you to another level that is greater than you were before. When you accept where you are and see personal development as growth rather than as a game of catch-up you will start to grow exponentially faster.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK AND HOW DID IT INSPIRE YOU?
The New Male Sexuality by Dr. Bernie Zilbergeld. One of the first personal development books I read as a teenager and an absolute must for all men. It talks about life, sex, and intimacy. It totally changed my confidence levels in all areas of my life not just regarding sexual relationships. I highly recommend it for all boys and men.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
Recently I started running. While not always relaxed during running, the endorphin rush afterwards is relaxing. I meditate, do breathing exercises, connect with friends and get outside in the fresh air come rain or shine. I also stopped watching TV about 9 years ago which made a huge difference to how I felt generally in life.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU OR YOUR INDUSTRY FACES, AND HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THOSE?
Right now, I am working on changing my relationship with money and ending generational trauma that is in my family regarding money scarcity and the fear of scarcity. I am doing that through some great work with my own coach. Yeah, that’s right, I don’t just work as a coach, I have one of my own because I know how life changing they are. Single handedly the best investment I have made in myself.
WHAT IS ONE TREND IN YOUR INDUSTRY THAT EXCITES YOU?
That more people are realizing that coaching is not just for top performers but everyone can benefit from working with one. That excites me because it means more people will get to change their lives in ways they can’t even imagine right now.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU DO EVERY DAY THAT ADDS TO YOUR SUCCESS?
A self-check-in where I take some time to connect with how I feel and what I need that day. This has been a really helpful practice as it keeps me attuned to areas where I want to focus on growth and prosperity. It also keeps me down to earth and, in the moment, rather than stuck in my head.
WHAT TECHNOLOGY PRODUCT CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
My mobile phone. I run my whole business from it - video calls, phone calls, emails, marketing, the whole lot. A laptop and tablet are just a bonus on the side.
PLEASE, FINISH THIS STATEMENT: LEADERSHIP IS...
sharing vulnerably about your own areas of work and growth to inspire others to grow and achieve everything they want in their lives.
