WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED AND WHY?
"It's not about you." While incredibly simple this has been the most profound advice I have ever received. So often we see the world through a lens of self, and judge others thoughts and actions from a place of insecurity. But the truth is simple, it's not about us, it is about a much bigger picture. This advice when partnered with a healthy self-image can make you unstoppable.
WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU AND WHY?
I am constantly inspired by those who have overcome great adversity. I have worked for some time now as a trauma therapist and I am constantly inspired by their resiliency and dedication. For some it's as simple as getting out of bed every morning, for others it's starting a business, or gaining independence. It is truly the little things that make people great.
WHAT IS THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD SHARE WITH OUR READERS TO UPLIFT THEM IN LIFE AND CAREER?
Win the day! Start small but do everything you can to create a win for yourself every day. Whether it is waking up the first time your alarm clock goes off, or having a difficult conversation, or not procrastinating on a task, make sure to take a win every day and keep moving forward.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK AND HOW DID IT INSPIRE YOU?
See You at The Top by Zig Zeigler. The life and leadership concepts in this book are incredibly profound. In a subtle way he talks about everything from self-image, to parenting, to goal setting, to shifts in mindset, and of course winning for yourself.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
For me it's always going to great food and inspiring music. I always enjoy sensory experiences to get me out of my head and get some perspective.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU OR YOUR INDUSTRY FACES, AND HOW DO YOU OVERCOME THOSE?
Family counseling has always had one stable and unchanging challenge, it’s all about people, and those people all have feelings, thoughts, and free will. You see, at its core counseling is about joining people on their journey and being brave enough to journey with them. No matter how much this world changes, or what advancements we make, people will always need someone to help them navigate not only the events of life but all the other people and the choices that they make that affect us.
WHAT IS ONE TREND IN YOUR INDUSTRY THAT EXCITES YOU?
I am very excited about the access that can be gained via technology. Up till this point my circle of influence has been relatively small, but with technology and global communities I can take the gifts and talents that I have and share them with people from all over. It will never replace in person interaction but it can build bridges that were previously not possible.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU DO EVERY DAY THAT ADDS TO YOUR SUCCESS?
I remind myself every day how much I love people. Not just my family and friends but people as a global unit. I believe that you can't change this world for the better until you learn to love it. This, for me, applies to all success. Want to sell? Love people and genuinely desire to make their life better, then you will sell. Want to lead? Love people, be willing to be a great teacher and want their success more than you want your own, then people will follow you anywhere. Want to be truly great? Serve people, live your life to make others better, that is a greatness that can't be measured.
WHAT TECHNOLOGY PRODUCT CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
To be honest, I am not sure there is one for me. I do love technology, and I go a little crazy sometimes without the access that my phone provides, but I love simple. I often leave all technology behind and completely unplug when I want to getaway. Sometimes I miss how slow the world moved when we didn't have quite so much technology. Oh, and did I mention that I go a little crazy without my phone.
PLEASE, FINISH THIS STATEMENT: LEADERSHIP…
can't be faked, like love it is genuine and based on who you are as a person. Who you truly are will always be reflected in your leadership style. Want to grow as a leader? Grow yourself and leadership will follow.
